Our primary colors

Unsere Primärfarben

Primary colors are the be-all and end-all in the world of painting. These basic colors - which are not created by mixing other colors - are the building blocks for the entire color spectrum. Two color systems are mainly used in painting: the RYB and the CMY systems.

Understanding the RYB color system

The RYB color system is based on the colors red, yellow and blue. It is particularly popular in traditional art and in the training of artists because it teaches the basics of color mixing in a simple way. In our range you will find the colors signal red, permanent yellow and ultramarine in both the Aquarylic Color and the acrylic paints, which are ideal for this system.

the CMY colour system: a modern approach

The CMY system, based on the colors cyan, magenta and yellow, allows a wider range of colors, including bright and luminous tones that are not so easy to achieve in the RYB system. In our range of Aquarylic Colors and Acrylic paints you will find Phtalo Blue Cyan, Quinacridone Magenta and Lemon Yellow, which are suitable for the CMY system.

Mix secondary and tertiary colors

By mixing two primary colors, you create secondary colors such as orange, green and violet in the RYB system or blue-violet, red and green in the CMY system. Tertiary colors - another color level - are created by mixing neighboring primary and secondary colors, resulting in unique and complex colors. With mixed white or jet black, you can lighten or darken any color as desired.

Our highly pigmented, lightfast and age-resistant colors are perfect for mixing a wide variety of shades.
