- the iron filings can be applied with acrylic adhesive, acrylic paint, chalk paint or putty
- the iron can either be left as it is or made to rust
- in order to rust the iron filings, they must be sprayed with rusting agent
- this process can be repeated several times until the desired effect is achieved
