complete

your work of art is done

After you have signed and varnished your artwork, it should now be complete.

signature

The question of how and where to sign a painting often invites debate. There are no hard rules on what’s right or wrong, but a signature is essential. Our artist and founder Angelika shares her views and practices, which she also imparts in her Masterclass courses: The signature should be consistent and recognizable, whether as a full name or as a monogram. It’s an expression of authorship. Experiment with different styles and tools to find the right signature for you. The signature should be harmoniously integrated into the painting, usually at the bottom left or right, matching the color scheme of the artwork. Sometimes it’s also placed on the back or side, where there’s also room for additional information.

year of creation

Many artists add the year of creation next to the signature or note it on the back of the canvas, along with their name. This contributes to the history and authenticity of the artwork.

framing

Framing a painting can significantly enhance its appearance. Stretcher frames are often presented with shadow gap frames, creating a subtle visible gap between the canvas and the outer frame. An appropriate frame lends additional strength to the artwork and can enhance its overall impact.
