liquid iron

With our liquid iron you can easily create vibrant rust surfaces. On the one hand, these surfaces can be highlights in the painting, or you can integrate the rust areas like a color surface.

application with brush or spatula

The liquid iron can be applied directly to the canvas or other surfaces with a brush or spatula. On the one hand pure or also diluted with a little water. The advantage is that it does not have to be oxidized immediately. You can let your surface dry completely and bring it to oxidize at any time. To do this, you fill our rusting agent into a spray bottle and spray the iron surface evenly. After about 2 hours, the oxidation process will begin. This process can be repeated as often as you like. Even the iron surface that is already thoroughly dry can be brought to oxidation immediately.

poured rust surfaces

Dilute the liquid iron 1:1 with water in a container and mix this mixture carefully with a brush. Pour this mixture onto your canvas and let it dry completely. Then oxidize the dried surface as usual with the rusting agent.

how does the rust surface behave when painted over?

Rust surfaces always shine through after a paint application. This, in turn, can produce very nice shades of color. When chalk color white is applied, it turns an earthy brown color. The liquid iron as well as the iron filings in combination are therefore very often used together with our chalk colors and also all other colors.

Materials used:

Chalk color white, liquid iron, iron filings, acrylic binder, rusting agent

Apply the liquid iron (brushed or poured) and let it dry well. The iron filings must be sifted onto a binder. This can be chalk paint white or an acrylic binder. Let the surfaces dry again and again and then bring them to oxidize. Then brush or pour the chalk paint white over it. Spraying water with the spray bottle creates the beautiful gutter marks.

You can also create gorgeous collage papers with our iron materials. Collages can then be deliberately placed on the artwork.
